In 36 BC, I was left in charge of the attempt to defeat Sextus. Thanks to superior technology and training, my men and I won decisive victories at Mylae and Naulochus, destroying all but seventeen of Sextus' ships and compelling most of his forces to surrender. Octavian awarded me the unprecedented honor of a naval crown decorated with the beaks of ships; as Dio remarks, this was "a decoration given to nobody before or since". I will remember this forever.
